Smoke Shells: White Phosphorus

Messagede Tichy » Mar Juin 17, 2008 10:41 am

It seems that most (if not all) smoke shells were actually white phosphorus instead of other chemicals. This makes an interesting point as WP would certainly cause casualties if hit the target with occupants.

I thought WP was only used by the Americans during WW2

So did I until I found the description of smoke shell production difficulties that British overcame by using WP. Shocking isn't it.

(Reason to use WP is not to be dependent on time fuse because WP does go off as soon as contacting air)

White phosphorous is highly convenient, you get two in one, eliminated enemy units and a smoke screen.
