Cavalry charge

Messagede Tichy » Mer Avr 30, 2008 11:36 am

Rules state that cavalry may use charge speed only in straight line of hexes. This is very understandable, however, it limits charges to only in six directions - sometimes producing awkward situations (eg. gallop few hexes to certain direction to make straight line for charge).

That is, unless cavalry may charge along hexline. eg. increasing directions of charge to 12. Each hexline is counted as an hex for movement purposes.

According to me, a charge should only be straight in its final moves, as it is stated in so many other games... it seems enough according to the map scale

Good point!

Last two? Last three?

Actually that makes Cavalry to use the max speed at all times - which may be against the original purpose of two speeds... :)

I don't have tu rules behind the eyes but we may consider (? - I didn't read charges rules yet  ) that "in straight line" means in "on general direction" = in the shortest path of hexes toward the ennemy unit, without making curves etc. It'd be more realistic. I think.

In rules it is said as: ""...may only be conducted in one direction and in straight line along row of hexes."

Hmmm, exceptionally clearly said. :D

Maybe the horses like to have some company?

Well, should we use cinematic reference here, "Lord of the Rings, part III"?

Idon't know how large cavalry platoon is but that's about 100 horses, 1 per meter. :D

That makes no sense - except not to take charges with bad odds.

"... units has to be stacked or adjacent to each other..."

They don't have to stay in single stack. But cavalry must have arranged in groups of three. For example an echelon of three units, each in separate hex. This apparently because of organization and enforce proper cavalry tactics.

I hope that helps.
